Summary of the Minutes of the Special Session of the Board of Education

April 10, 2008

 

The Board of Education met in special session at 5:05 p.m., on Thursday, April 10, 2008, in the Board Room of the Administration Building.  Present were Jim Spicer, President; Michele Appelgate, Tim Becker, Robert Thoms and Mark Young, Directors.  Directors Gary Hoffman and Darshini Jayawardena were absent.

 

President Spicer reviewed the agenda and made note the closed session was no longer needed.  A motion was made by Director Young and seconded by Director Becker to approve the agenda with the removal of the closed session.  Ayes all.

 

Director Darshini Jayawardena entered the meeting at this point.

 

Be it remembered that at 5:00 p.m. on this, the 10th day of April, 2008, the Board of Directors of the Mason City Community School District of Cerro Gordo County, Iowa met in session for the purpose of a hearing upon the 2008-2009 budget estimates filed with this Board.  There was present a quorum as required by law.  Thereupon the Board investigated and found the notice of the time and place of hearing has, according to law and as directed by the Board, been published on the 27th day of March, 2008, in the Mason City Globe Gazette, a newspaper published at Mason City, of said county.  The affidavit of publication thereof was on file with the County Auditor.  Thereafter and on said day the estimate was taken up and considered and taxpayers provided an opportunity to be heard for or against said proposed 2008-2009 budget.  There were no taxpayers present desiring to be heard.

 

Following discussion, a motion was made by Director Becker and seconded by Director Thoms to approve the 2008-2009 certified budget as proposed with a total certified expenditure for all funds of $49,745,835.  A roll call vote was taken resulting in ayes all.

 

A motion was made by Director Thoms and seconded by Director Appelgate to adjourn.  Ayes all.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
