MASON CITY’S SCHLADWEILER IS ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR

Kathryn Schladweiler, director of instructional programs at Mason City Community School District, has been named the 2007 Central Office Administrator of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa.

“Kathryn Schladweiler is dedicated to working with the district’s teachers and principals to help all students grow academically. Her colleagues often seek her professional expertise in the areas of brain-based learning and curriculum planning. SAI is pleased to recognize this exemplary educational leader,” said Dan Smith, SAI executive director.

I am honored and humbled to be recognized by SAI as Central Office Administrator of the Year. I would like to thank the committee for this award.  No one who works in an administrative position can function successfully as an island, and I am fortunate to be part of a supportive team. This recognition is really for all of my colleagues in Mason City who share in this philosophy of collaboration and who have been so supportive of me,” Schladweiler expressed.

This educational leader is active as the interim executive director for the Iowa Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and serves on the Leadership Council for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Prior to coming to Mason City, she was a language arts consultant with the South Central Education District, a 13-district consortium, in Minnesota. Her education career began as a secondary English teacher.

She was nominated by her peers, selected for the award by a committee of Iowa central office administrators and will be honored at an awards ceremony at the state capitol.

SAI, a statewide organization founded in 1987, represents more than 2000 Iowa educational administrators. SAI’s mission is to support, encourage and develop Iowa’s educational leaders and learners.
