On behalf of our entire Hoover staff, allow me to say, “THANK YOU”!  This school year has flown by very quickly and the support from our families, friends and neighborhood volunteers, as we’ve served the students of Hoover Elementary, is greatly appreciated…HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!

  • Moving?    If you plan on moving over the summer, please let the office know your new address, since the fall registration forms we mail you will not be forwarded by the post office.
  • Lunch ~ If your child has a negative lunch account balance, please bring it up-to-date before May 23rd.  All balances will carry over to this fall.  Fifth grade balances will transfer over to their middle school.
  • Visitor Badges ~ If you have any Hoover Visitor Badges, please return them to school with your student.

- Professional Development / In-service training for teachers- no classes held for Mason City Schools.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 8

- Ms. Kriegel, Mrs. Muller and Ms. Velthoff’s students present “We’re Making Music”.  1:00 p.m. / Parents / Gym

 

FRIDAY, MAY 9 

-Kindergarten to Lime Creek from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m….A sack lunch will be needed by each student.

 

MONDAY, MAY 12

- Band and Orchestra Recruitment Day from 3:30-8:00 p.m. at Hoover Elementary.

- PTO Building Subcommitte Mtg. / 1:00 p.m. in the conference room

- Roosevelt Middle School 5th Grade Student and Parent Night / 6:30-7:30 p.m.

 

TUESDAY, MAY 13

- Annual Fifth Grade Track Meet at Mohawk Stadium…Students will need sack lunches to be eaten at the stadium.  Buses will pick up at Hoover at 9:45 a.m. and return from the track meet at 2:30 p.m. (rain date May 14th).

- 3rd Grade field trip to Kinney Pioneer Museum.  Students will need sack lunches.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 14 

- Hoover PTO at 9:15 a.m.  /LGI

- Bus Evacuation Drills / 1:00 p.m.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 15

- Please join us in a retirement reception for Mrs. Jensen, Mrs. Novak and Mr. Walrod beginning at 3:30 p.m.  in the gym.

 

MONDAY, MAY 19

- 2nd Grade trip to Prairie Playground…9:15-11:15 a.m. / meeting pen pals from Harding.

- All Hoover IC books are to returned by today for year-end inventory and storage.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 21

1ST grade field trip to Curries Manufacturing from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

THURSDAY, MAY 22

- FIFTH GRADE GRADUATION…This special ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. in the gym.  The Hoover band will perform

  starting at 4:00 p.m.   The ceremony and activities will conclude with refreshments at 5:30 p.m.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 23

- Annual spring kindergarten program “SEE WHAT WE’VE LEARNED!” performed at 10:30 a.m. in Hoover gym…

  Picnic at Prairie Playground in afternoon (11:45-2:30 p.m.)  Students will need sack lunches.

- North Iowa Band Festival Parade and activities…

 

MONDAY, MAY 26

- MEMORIAL DAY:  No classes held for Mason City Schools.

 

TUESDAY, MAY 27

- 1st Grade picnic at West Park / 10:00-11:45 a.m.  …A sack lunch will be needed by each student.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 28

- 2nd grade picnic at West Park  /11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m…A sack lunch will be needed by each student.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 29

- Last day of classes for Mason City Community Schools.

- Hoover’s Annual Jelly Bean Day and Year-End PTO parties.

- FINAL REPORT CARDS…Your child will bring a report card home on Thursday, May 29th, the last day of school.

   Students absent on May 29th will have their report cards mailed home.

 

MONDAY, AUGUST 5

- Elementary Registration / 12:00-7:00 p.m.

 

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6

- Elementary Registration / 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20

- Beginning of the Year Conferences held, as scheduled by families, during August registration.

 

THURSDAY, AUGUST 21

- FIRST DAY OF CLASSES (Kindergarten classes split for orientations on the first two days of school.)

GOLDEN APPLE AWARD

Hats off to Mrs. Swyter, Hoover 5th grade teacher,  for being honored by her students and  receiving the March KIMT Golden Apple Award!  Great job Mrs. Swyter!

 

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

Congratulations to our students who participated in this spring’s  Battle of the Books”,  a challenging competition that “stretches” our Hoover students deep into the world of good literature…Keep it up Hoover Kids!

WATCH FOR REGISTRATION PACKETS THIS AUGUST:

We will be handling registration for the 2008-2009 school year similar to last year.  We will be sending registration packets through the mail to you in early August.  The materials inside the packet will be similar to those used in the past.  Simply bring the completed packet of registration materials with you on August 5th ( 12:00-7:00 p.m. ) or August 6th ( 8:00-4:00 p.m. ).  This is designed to make registration less hectic and time- consuming.  Please contact our office if you have not received a packet by August 2nd.

 

SUMMER BAND LESSONS

CURRENT 5TH Grade band students will have the opportunity to take summer band lessons.  They can sign up to take small group lessons in June and July and / or large group band practice in August.  All current 5th grade band students should receive a letter and registration form in the mail. 

For NEXT YEAR’S 5th grade students, band and orchestra lessons will be held at the Music Man Square from July 28th thru August 15th.  More information will be coming. 

 

Summer Orchestra Camp:  available for incoming 6th graders.  The camp will take place in the High School Orchestra room during the month of June and will be large group rehearsals.

 

Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from June 3rd through June 26th (12 rehearsals)   Rehearsals will be from 10:00-10:45.  There is a cost to this camp.  More information will be sent home with the Orchestra students.   The Orchestra Camp is optional for the orchestra students, but we hope that everyone is able to join us!

Final note…It is my pleasure to announce Hoover’s new principal for the 2008-2009 school year.  Mrs. Allison Pattee, who has been serving this past year as an elementary principal for the Oskaloosa Community School District, will begin her duties at Hoover sometime around August 1st.  I’m confident that she will be a wonderful addition to a student body, a staff and a neighborhood with whom I’ve had the privilege of sharing a love of life, learning and caring service for the past twenty-four years.  Thanks to all of you for your wonderful support and BEST WISHES MRS. PATTEE!!
