Dear Parents:

The registration dates for next school year for the 2008-2009 school year are as follows:

                                    Tuesday, August 5                     12:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.

                                    Wednesday, August 6               8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.

                                    JAMS make-up day:

                                    Thursday, August 14                 8:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Please mark these registration dates in your calendar.  The first day of school next year for 6th graders and new students to the district will be Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  The first day of school for all students is Thursday, August 21, 2007.

When shopping for school clothing this summer, we ask that you keep some things in mind.  The most important concern is that tops must cover the midriff area all the time.  The top and outer garment must have a strap that is at least one inch in width over each shoulder.  Spaghetti straps are not allowed.  Halter tops are not permitted.  Shirts and shorts should be a length equal to the arm extended along the leg.

A huge thank you must go to Mr. Berkley who organized the John Adams Shoot-Out held this last March.  It was a fun evening for everyone involved.  Many PTO members volunteered their time in an effort to provide a fun family event.  We thank all of the parents who helped and students who participated; it was the largest turn out in many years.

The 7th grade boys will be attending the Challenge Passage Conference developed by the Youth Task Force.  The boys will leave school approximately at 8:30 A.M. and will return around 3:00 P.M.  Students should dress in athletic clothing as they will be participating in activities at Madison Early Childhood Center and the low ropes course at the YMCA.  This conference will focus on marketing oneself for job opportunities, substance abuse, leadership skills, community input, and courage.  Permission slips are due back by Wednesday, May 6.  The 7th grade girls will remain at school while the boys attend the conference.

There will be no school for students on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, because of professional development meetings for staff.  In recognition of Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, there will be no school as well.  Please enjoy the three day weekend.  The last day of the fourth quarter is on Thursday, May 29, 2008.  Teachers will be working on grades the morning of Friday, May 30, 2008.

On Friday, May 16, 2008, we plan to have the annual field day competition at school barring weather conditions.  Please remind your student to dress in athletic type clothing as he/she may be involved in some physical activities and games that afternoon.

The 7th and 8th grade students next year are eligible to compete in interscholastic athletic programs.  A physical examination is required before your child may participate.  Physical exams are good for 13 months from the date of the exam.  They must be turned into the office before the season starts for the sport you wish to participate in during the 2008-2009 school year.  In addition, parents need to complete a medical card before the student can practice and compete.  Please keep in mind that an athletic physical and a medial card are an annual requirement.  Make sure that all blanks are filled in on both the medical card and physical forms.  These forms are available in the office.

The John Adams staff hopes that everyone has had a great school year and will have a safe and enjoyable summer.  Please make sure that your child(ren) are challenged mentally approximately three times a week with reading and academic tasks.  This will help with retention of information and maintaining academic skills.  Please also remember to keep them active with physical activity.

Sincerely,

T.J. Jumper, Principal
