 School Notification System Updates Needed
Monday, August 30, 2010

With the first early dismissal occurring due to weather, in this case heat, one of the things you may not have done yet is to update your category selection through the School Notification System - SNS. This system notifies you by e-mail or text message to your pager or cell phone. At this time there are still categories listed for Madison Early Childhood Center , Washington Early Childhood Center and Roosevelt Middle School , and a category of Lincoln Intermediate has been added. Families need to go into the system by selecting Parent Portals to the left and then selecting School Notification System or you may click here to take you directly to the sign in page of the system. You can then sign in by supplying the e-mail address and your password and you can update your information by selecting the new categories you wish to be notified by and unsubscribing to the categories you no longer need. If you have any questions, please call the office of the superintendent at 641-421-4401.

New Math Teacher to be Hired at MCHS
Thursday, August 19, 2010

Dear Parents,

It is with great pleasure that I announce that we will be able to hire a new highly qualified math teacher at Mason City High School.  This will allow our Geometry and Algebra II classes to have reduced class sizes, which were extremely large.

As a school we will be working quickly to find and hire this teacher.  We are hoping to have a highly qualified math teacher in place by the end of the second week of school.  Until then, we will have a substitute teacher that is working very closely with the math department to provide the same lessons that other students in those classes are receiving.  The students who received schedule changes were randomly selected using our scheduling programming system.  The addition of a teacher to the math department will allow the students to have a more conducive learning environment in order to provide the best education possible to our students.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 421-4431.

Educationally yours,

T.J. Jumper

MCHS Silver Cord Program
Thursday, July 15, 2010

Mason City High School, in an effort to provide students with opportunities to develop to their fullest potential and to become valuable contributors to society, initiated the Silver Cord Service Program with the 2004-05 school year. It is our belief that students who interact positively within their community not only will benefit the community, but also will develop their own leadership and citizenship skills. To encourage and reward volunteerism and community service, the Silver Cord program will recognize students each year who have made significant contributions to the community through their service. Seniors who have completed a minimum of 160 hours of approved volunteer service during their four years at MCHS will be awarded a silver cord and will be recognized at graduation exercises.  A log of student completion of approved service activities will be maintained for all students by their teacher-advisor. Click on link to access the verification form.  Silver_Cord_Verification_Form.pdf
