ROOSEVELT MIDDLE SCHOOL

LETTER TO PARENTS

September 2005

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The 2005-2006 school year is off to a good start.  Students seem to be finding their way around the school and lockers are opening easily for most of the students.  In a couple of weeks, all students will be pros at finding their way around and opening their lockers.  The building is open most nights until about 6:00 p.m. if your child needs to come back and practice that locker combination just a little bit more without too many people around.

We have also started our Tuesday morning professional development meetings so we are asking parents not to send your child to school until close to the 8:30 a.m. time.  Breakfast does start on Tuesday at 8:10 a.m. and we welcome those students to be here at that time or after.  If you have any questions or concerns, please give Mr. Ellingson or myself a call.

We will be doing our annual fundraiser – magazine sales – starting September 8th.  We have the prizes for selling displayed in the case by the office.  The final turn in day will be September 21st.  Now is the time for students to be reminding friends and relatives to start checking on which magazines they subscribe to that could be renewed.  The renewal orders as well as any new subscriptions would allow your child to receive a prize as well as provide financial support for the school.

This year again we are also using the icon, School Bulletin, in Power School.  Parents will be able to view, on a daily basis, the announcements we are sharing with the students and teachers.  We are hoping this will help parents as well as providing a means of communicating within the building.  If you have not had the Power School training to be able to get your user name and password, we will be having a training session on September 27th as part of the parent group meeting from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the RMS IC.

Our athletic teams – football, cross country, and volleyball – are underway and games and meets will be starting very soon.  We encourage parents to support these games through their attendance.  The 8th grade football team will practice at John Adams and the 7th grade football team will practice at RMS.  All football games will be played at John Adams due to the construction on our property.

Thanks for your help as parents to get our year started successfully.
